Biography

Emily Adams (b. 2002) is an interdisciplinary artist from North Vernon, Indiana. Adams received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Drawing at Northern Kentucky University in 2024.  Adams tends to draw from her past experiences when creating her works, focusing on the fact that you will never be the carefree child that you once were and the emotions that this might cause. She talks a lot about the past to try and evoke nostalgia into her pieces. Her work shows how people change over time and find new things that make them happy or become important to them.

Artist Statement

With my art I like to talk about my own experiences in life and how certain objects of a specific nature represent both the past and present and ultimately evoke a sense of nostalgia in the viewer through my art. I wanted the viewers to be able to see how much we change as a person over time, and also focus on the fact that we will never be that age again. A lot of my pieces explore the bittersweet nature of growing up; how we outgrow the things, people, and moments that once defined us, and how these transitions shape our identities. Rather than focusing on the physical aches of growing, I reflect on the emotional and psychological shifts that come with each stage of life. As we grow we inevitably change, but the core of who we are, and the memories that shape us, remain. This is an invitation to reflect on your own growing pains, and the beauty in embracing both the old and the new.
